Zone 2 – Agro-Ecology Area
Zone 2 is the productive area whereby agro-ecology practices are used to create food via food forests and low or no till agricultural techniques.
This low-impact agriculture is a carbon sequestering action and therefore pulls CO2 from the atmosphere storing it into the ground.
Tilling the soil
- damages the structure and reduces Soil Organic Matter (SOM).
- If used with modern agricultural techniques completely destroy the soil (Worldwide over 20% of all land has been degraded or eroded).
- Releases carbon dioxide (CO2) from the soil (The USDA-ARS measured the CO2 loss from deep tilling at 579 lbs/acre in a 24-hour period).
